Medhurst Cellar Door is an extension to the existing building that seeks to expand the wine tasting experience and address the site in a broader context. The brief focused on increasing the connection of patrons to the wine, food and natural surrounds.

Through master planning, site analysis and extensive consultation with the client, it was established that a linear extension to the existing building was an effective intervention.

The design of the building uses the same construction technique as the existing structure and continues this in the form of a linear extrusion to the East, with a subtle curve to frame the tasting space. Modifications to the hierarchy of the adjacent landscaping, public spaces and functional areas is brought about by the building’s new volume as well as the use of blade walls that assist to link the new space with the Medhurst Winery building that sits adjacent.
